Self Help, Inc. is an initiative of the First District that builds on the Church's longstanding commitment to the community and helping people in all aspects of their lives. Through the recently built First District Plaza at 3801 Market St. in Philadelphia, PA, Self Help embodied its mission of "Building families, communities, businesses and partnerships.Together" by providing a first class facility that serves both the business community and the First District. The Plaza is a 120,000 square foot, three story office building with a 1,800 person capacity convention facility, restaurant and on-site building management. Central to both 30th Street Station, where Amtrak and commuter trains run daily, and Center City Philadelphia, the Plaza provides an excellent meeting or office location.
The Plaza also symbolizes the AME Church's success in creating a community-based economic development engine that empowers people to help themselves.
