the lay organization

The First District Lay Organization is the teaching and training vehicle for laity; actively guiding them to utilize their skills, talents and abilities for the extension of God's Kingdom. The organization seeks to educate and motivate laity for better service to the church and larger community.

Fostering a continual love and appreciation for the historical principles, tradition and development of African Methodism are key elements of the organization's teaching and training model for Christian service.

Training around issues such as church legislation, voter registration and political activism, stewardship and evangelism, religious and secular education, economic development, advocacy and leadership empowerment helps prepare laypersons for effective service.

The Lay Organization is represented in each conference of the First Episcopal District. The conferences meet monthly and are comprised of local church chapters, reflecting diversity, participation and equal representation from each conference.

Mrs. F. Jane Harris serves as the President of the First Episcopal District Lay Organization.
