From its founding, the African Methodist Episcopal Church has been committed to academic excellence, higher education and Christian leadership. Our commitment spans internationally to attract students through an intensive interdenominational outreach; compatible with that of similar denominations reflecting equal membership.

As an institution of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Wilberforce University was the first college in the United States owned and controlled by people of color. The Church has now extended its reach to schools of higher learning that offer undergraduate, graduate and theological education.
